Drowned rats!

Trier greeted us with rain. Lots and lots of rain. I thought that walked a lot in the last few towns but I was wrong. Trier didn't have the public transportation that the big cities we have been in have so we walked...and walked....and walked some more.

We found a fun vined structure. I would like one of these in my backyard, but it's not very practical.

Then we happened on one of the biggest and coolest playgrounds i have ever seen. It had a section that looked like a Medieval torture park. Not only is that a slide but it's also a climbing area. The nervous nelly in me wonders how safe it is to climb sticks thirty plus feet up.

There was also a water play area at the top of a hill. You could play and manipulate the water and it would flow down a series of tunnels down to a giant sand pit.

This was the view from the top. We hiked from the back of the town on the right. In the rain...uphill. Joy!

After coming down from our playground high, we headed into town to see some of the sights and get some lunch. This is the Porta Nigra. It's a Roman gate from 200 A.D.

We also visited the church. It was ornately gorgeous on the inside and they claim to have the seamless robe of Christ which is not available for viewing. However, there is an altar to the robe.

The halls reminded me of Hogwarts. We stayed inside and walked around so that we could stay out of the rain.

Our last stop was to the Basilica of Constantine . Looking at it from the outside you don't notice that the walls are 9 feet thick. This is where Constantine the Great would greet and entertain guests. It was originally built as an addition to the palace, but now is used as a church.

After a long day, we headed back to our hotel to warm up and eat dinner before calling it a night. Tomorrow we head to Heidleburg!

Location:Trier, Germany
